1. Acceptance of Terms

ArcanaPDF is provided to you under a BSD 3-Clause License. Your use of ArcanaPDF signifies your acceptance of these Terms and the BSD 3-Clause License.

2. User Accounts

ArcanaPDF offers two types of user accounts: Demo User accounts and Registered User accounts.

2.1 Demo User Accounts

  • Purpose: Demo accounts are provided for users to try out the core features of ArcanaPDF without requiring registration.

  • Limitations: Demo users do not have access to AI-powered features (AI-generated backstories, portraits, or MP3 presentations).

  • Data Persistence: Demo accounts are temporary. Any data, including characters you create, will be reset after 24 hours or when you log out.

  • Data Migration: If you create characters as a demo user and subsequently sign up for a Registered User account using the same browser, your demo characters will be saved and associated with your new registered account.

2.2 Registered User Accounts

  • Registration: To access AI-powered features, you must register an account with a valid email address.

  • Verification: Upon signing up, you will receive an email with a unique URL hash. Visiting this URL (by clicking the button in the email) is required to complete the account verification process.

  • AI Tokens: Upon successful email verification, free accounts receive 20 AI tokens. Each AI service (backstory generation, portrait generation, MP3 presentation generation) consumes 1 token per use. For example, creating a character with a portrait and backstory costs 2 tokens; a character with a backstory, portrait, and presentation costs 3 tokens.

  • Email Address: Your registered email address cannot be changed after registration.

  • Password Security: Passwords are hashed in the ArcanaPDF database for security.

  • Account Deletion:

    • Upon account deletion, all associated character data and other personal information will be wiped from the ArcanaPDF database.

    • Your email address will be stored for a period of six (6) months following account deletion. This is for administrative purposes, primarily to prevent token abuse.

    • Re-using a previously deleted email address to register a new account within this six-month period will not replenish the initial 20 AI tokens for that email address.

3. Privacy Policy

Your privacy is important to us. ArcanaPDF does not share any collected user data with third parties. The data collected and stored in our database for users includes:

  • Email addresses

  • Usernames and hashed passwords

  • Registration datetime

  • Deletion datetime (for validation purposes regarding the soft delete retention period)

  • Quantity of remaining AI tokens

For user-created characters, the database stores:

  • Character sheet data in JSON format for future downloading.

  • Character portraits in JPG format.

  • Backstories (text as part of the JSON character data).

  • MP3 presentation files.

All user data is isolated per user and is not publicly shared or accessible by other users. For a more detailed explanation of our data handling practices, please refer to our dedicated Privacy Policy.

4. User Conduct and Prohibited Uses

You agree to use ArcanaPDF only for lawful purposes and in a way that does not infringe the rights of, restrict, or inhibit anyone else's use and enjoyment of the application. Prohibited conduct includes, but is not limited to:

  • Engaging in any illegal activity or promoting illegal activities.

  • Harassing, threatening, or otherwise violating the legal rights (such as rights of privacy and publicity) of others.

  • Uploading or distributing any content that is unlawful, harmful, defamatory, obscene, or otherwise objectionable.

  • Attempting to gain unauthorized access to ArcanaPDF's systems or networks.

  • Interfering with or disrupting the integrity or performance of ArcanaPDF.

  • Using automated systems (e.g., bots, scripts) to access the application in a manner that sends more request messages to ArcanaPDF's servers than a human can reasonably produce in the same period by using a conventional web browser.

  • Using the AI features to generate content that is hateful, discriminatory, violent, sexually explicit, or otherwise harmful or illegal.

  • Any act that could damage, disable, overburden, or impair ArcanaPDF or interfere with any other party's use and enjoyment of ArcanaPDF.

5. Third-Party Services

ArcanaPDF integrates with various third-party services to provide its features. Your use of ArcanaPDF may also be subject to the terms and privacy policies of these third-party providers. We encourage you to review them:

The AI features provided by ArcanaPDF are for creative and entertainment purposes only. While efforts are made to ensure the quality of generated content, ArcanaPDF does not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or suitability of any AI-generated material. Users are responsible for reviewing and editing any AI-generated content to ensure it meets their requirements and adheres to appropriate standards.

6. Content Ownership

You retain all rights, title, and interest in and to the content you create using ArcanaPDF, including your character sheets, AI-generated backstories, portraits, and MP3 presentations. ArcanaPDF does not claim any ownership over your creations.

7. Termination

ArcanaPDF reserves the right to suspend or terminate your access to all or any part of the application at any time, with or without cause, with or without notice, effective immediately, if we believe you have violated these Terms of Service or engaged in any conduct that is harmful to ArcanaPDF, other users, or third parties. Upon termination, your right to use ArcanaPDF will immediately cease. If your account is terminated due to a violation of these Terms, you will not be eligible for any refund of unused AI tokens, nor will your email address be eligible for token replenishment if re-registered within the six-month retention period.

8. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability

  • ArcanaPDF is provided "as is" and "as available" without any warranties of any kind, either express or implied, including, but not limited to, implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.

  • ArcanaPDF does not warrant that the application will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or that any defects will be corrected.

  • In no event shall ArcanaPDF or its creators be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including without limitation, loss of profits, data, use, goodwill, or other intangible losses, resulting from (i) your access to or use of or inability to access or use the application; (ii) any conduct or content of any third party on the application; (iii) any content obtained from the application; and (iv) unauthorized access, use or alteration of your transmissions or content, whether based on warranty, contract, tort (including negligence) or any other legal theory, whether or not we have been informed of the possibility of such damage, and even if a remedy set forth herein is found to have failed of its essential purpose.

9. Changes to Terms

ArcanaPDF reserves the right to modify or replace these Terms at any time. If a revision is material, we will try to provide at least 30 days' notice prior to any new terms taking effect. What constitutes a material change will be determined at our sole discretion. By continuing to access or use our application after those revisions become effective, you agree to be bound by the revised terms.
